Who we are and what we do:

From its beginning in 1937, Tennessee State Parks were established to protect and preserve the unique natural, cultural, and historic resources of Tennessee. The public interest has also been served by a variety of benefits for citizens and communities produced by our state park system, promoting stronger communities and healthier citizens across the state through diverse resource-based recreation while conserving the natural environment for today and tomorrow - preserving authentic Tennessee places and spaces for future generations to enjoy. As stewards of the resources in our parks, we seek to manage Tennessee's state parks in order to preserve and protect valued resources and to provide a balance of services and benefits for the enjoyment of the people.

This position is located at Warriors' Path State Park in Kingsport, TN. This 1,030-acre general recreation park is located along beautiful Fort Patrick Henry Lake and provides a wide variety of recreation opportunities. The park offers 2 campgrounds, an 18-hole golf course, a marina with snack bar, private boat slips, a fuel dock, paddle craft rentals, multiple gift shop operations, meeting and event venues, Darrell's Dream Boundless Playground, two 18-hole disc golf courses, a public boat ramp, leased horse stables, and a variety of sports courts.


How you make a difference in this role:

You will make a difference by supporting community outreach programs and partnering with local businesses, educational institutions, and area officials to promote the park and impact economic development.


Job Overview:

To provide oversight, growth, and direction for all operations and amenities within the park including the gift shop operations, cabins, campground, meeting and event venues, museum, and leased marina operations.


Key Responsibilities:

Some of the key responsibilities are listed below, but not limited to:

1. Administer an annual budget of $1,777,500.

2. Manage 17 full time staff members and 13 job share positions, supporting their growth and development through individual performance plans, training, and evaluations.

3. Participate in the implementation and coordination of polices and initiatives for park operations. Ensure all governing state parks’ policies are observed.

4. Work closely with staff to maintain and oversee all park operations, including managing multiple capital projects and park improvement projects.


Required Experience:

The candidate is required to be a state commissioned officer recognized by the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy or is willing to become commissioned.

Preferred candidates will have five or more years of natural resource or parks and recreation management experience and a bachelor's degree in Natural Resource - Based Management (Natural Resources, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, etc.), Park and Recreation Management, Business Management or related field.
